Cycling news - Cees Bol gives Sunweb first victory of season in Flanders

Cees Bol sprinted for victory at Nokere Koerse on Wednesday to give Team Sunweb their first win of the season – although the finale was marred by a huge crash in the closing stages.

Coming into the final section on the cobbles there were a good number of riders in a bunch as Bora-Hansgrohe made the first move to lead out.
Pascal Ackermann went early for Bora, but Sunweb rallied and caught the German as Bols powered through for the win.
It was Sunweb’s first victory for five months with Bol's win maintaining the Nokere Koerse record of only seven cyclists winning the race who were not born in Belgium or the Netherlands.

‘Huge crash behind’ – Carnage as Bol takes victory
Unfortunately, a bit behind the winning pack there was a huge crash as Max Walscheid hit the cobbles hard and went down. Mathieu van der Poel also crashed and both riders looked in some discomfort as they were attended to by medics.
