Remco Evenepoel, Geraint Thomas and others pay tribute to Gino Mader after tragic death

Gino Mader died on Friday morning following the crash he was involved in at the Tour of Switzerland on Thursday. Tributes have been paid to the Swiss rider. “We are devastated by the loss of our exceptional cyclist, Gino Mader,” Bahrain Victorious managing director Milan Erzen said. “His talent, dedication, and enthusiasm were an inspiration to us all. "

Tributes have flooded in from around the cycling world following the death of Gino Mader.
Mader was airlifted to hospital following a crash at high speed towards the end of Stage 5 of the Tour of Switzerland on Thursday.
Bahrain Victorious confirmed that Mader died on Friday morning “despite the best efforts of the phenomenal staff at Chur hospital.”
“We are devastated by the loss of our exceptional cyclist, Gino Mader,” Bahrain Victorious managing director Milan Erzen said. “His talent, dedication, and enthusiasm were an inspiration to us all.
“Not only was he an extremely talented cyclist, but a great person off the bike. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
“Bahrain Victorious will race in his honour, keeping his memory on every road we race.
“We are determined to show the spirit and passion Gino displayed, and he will always remain an integral part of our team.”
Tributes from the world of cycling have been paid to Mader.
World champion Remco Evenepoel said: “Devastated by the news. My heart and strength is with Gino’s family, friends, team-mates… May you rest in piece Gino.”
Eurosport and GCN expert and former rider Dan Lloyd said: “I am beyond heartbroken to read this. My thoughts are with you all, and his family.”
Lloyd’s fellow Eurosport expert Hannah Walker said: “Utterly heartbreaking. My thoughts are with Gino Mader’s family, friends, team-mates, and all those who knew him. RIP, Gino.”
The 2018 Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas said: "I can’t believe what I’m reading. Such a sad sad day. Thoughts with everyone who knew and loved Gino."
Jumbo Visma sporting director Merijn Zeeman said: “No words. My condolences to all the people involved and who love Gino."
Five-time Grand Tour stage winner Thomas De Gendt said: "Again someone taken too soon. Feel sick reading this horrible news. My condolences to his family and team."
Trek-Segafredo rider Filippo Baroncini said: "We are all devastated. This is my lovely sport, my lovely job…but today, is one of the day I hate it. All condolences to his family, friends and team mates… Ciao Gino."
