Romain Bardet suffered a "small haemorrhage" after crashing on Stage 13 at the Tour de France.
The Frenchman, who had started Friday fourth in the General Classification, was involved in a huge crash midway through the stage along with Nairo Quintana.
The AG2R La Mondiale rider was then sent for an MRI which has since revealed the full extent of the damage.
"Headaches and nausea have not left me," Bardet wrote on Instagram.
"The MRI performed this morning confirmed a small haemorrhage following the concussion. With rest for an indefinite period of time, I should quickly recover.”
Remarkably, Bardet finished the stage after the crash, but admitted to feeling "groggy" throughout.
However, he did not start Stage 14 and will now take an indefinite period of leave off the bike.
