Sarah Storey storms to 36th Para-cycling gold at UCI Cycling World Championships in Dumfries

It was another gold medal for Great Britain Paralympic legend Sarah Storey at the UCI Cycling World Championships in Dumfries, as she picked up her 36th top prize on the world stage. The 45-year-old stormed to victory in the C5 individual time trial, beating her closest rival - Australia’s Alana Foster - by over a minute. Fellow Brit Morgan Newberry came fifth.

Sarah Storey won her 36th Para-cycling gold at the UCI World Championships in Dumfries on Thursday.
The Great Britain rider was the second starter in the C5 Individual Time Trial and crossed the line in a time of 39:48.89.
“Oh my goodness,” Storey said as soon as she got off the bike. “Yesterday I was panicking and I was panicking all day today.
"This is the event I live for. I couldn’t have done any more. Wow. That was quick.”
Her closest competition, Australia’s Alana Forster, finished 1:14.41 slower than the 45-year-old.
Fellow Brit Morgan Newberry came home in fifth, 3:23.59 off the pace set by the Paralympic legend.
Sandwiched in between Foster and Newberry was France’s Heidi Gaugain - who picked up bronze - and Germany’s Kerstin Brachtendorf.
It's the 17th road Para-cycling title of Storey's career, and she will target her 18th in Saturday’s road race.
The latest victory is further important preparation ahead of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, where Storey will be looking to add a 17th Paralympic gold medal to her collection.
She has also won five medals at Paralympic level in swimming.
