Wout van Aert 'happy to be back training outside' just four weeks after horror crash in Dwars door Vlaanderen

Wout van Aert has already made his return to road training. The Belgian was involved in a heavy crash at the Dwars door Vlaanderen in March, which left him with numerous injuries, including a broken collarbone. It has already been confirmed that he will miss next month's Giro D'Italia, and no date has been pencilled in for his return as of yet, but the 29-year-old says he is "happy to be back."
Wout van Aert is back on his bike - only four weeks after a horror crash in which he broke a collarbone.
The 29-year-old suffered the horror-smash in the Dwars door Vlaanderen on March 27.
But his team Visma-Lease-a-Bike have now confirmed he is back in the saddle.
"It's almost been four weeks, and I'm happy to be back riding outside," he said in a post on social media.
Van Aert had to go under the knife for an operation after the crash, which also left him with a broken sternum, several broken ribs and damaged a lung.
As such, he has been ruled out of making his Giro D'Italia debut when the race gets under way on May 4.
The Belgian is still expected to compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris this summer, having already missed the Paris-Roubaix earlier this month.
No date has been pencilled in for his return yet, but the video on X, formerly Twitter, shows van Aert back out cycling on the road, and he jokingly quips: "If you want to have a tasty ice cream, you need to turn right here."
Last week, he resumed outdoor training by cycling 30km on a mountain bike.
