Darts news - Jim Williams to meet Wayne Warren in all-Welsh BDO World final

Williams took the first set three legs to two, with both players hitting early 180s to promise an exacting game.

He hit the ground running in the second set when he went two legs up, with Van den Bogaerde struggling for form as Williams went two ahead. The Belgian tenaciously fought back to secure the third set and to halve the deficit between the two players.

Williams piled on the pressure in the fourth set needing 96 to win as Van den Bogaerde needed 191, giving the Welshman six darts to complete it, but he blew his chance to take a double 20 for the set. His opponent needed 51, and needing a double 10 with his last dart, he levelled to two sets all.

While Williams might have felt under pressure himself, he confidently returned to the oche and put down a 3-0 victory in the fifth set to go back ahead. His indomitable opponent recovered instantly to level the scores yet again, only to see Williams add another in response.

Williams put daylight between himself and Van den Bogaerde when he took three straight legs in order to establish a 5-3 lead.

Perhaps predictably, Van den Bogaerde refused to roll over and brought the scores to 5-4 with nine sets played.

The game was poised in the 10th with one leg each, then Williams moved ahead to make it 2-1, needing just one more leg to win the game. Van den Bogaerde left himself with 16 needed after blowing a chance, before Williams could not convert his own 16.

The Belgian then failed again, leaving two on the board before the Welshman finally completed his victory.

Scott Mitchell was knocked out 6-3 by Warren in the BDO World Championships semi-finals.

2015 winner Mitchell looked set for another final appearance as he took an early lead.

Mitchell then took the second set with three straight legs, finishing with a comfortable double eight.

Warren was able to take a leg in the third set as he attempted to mount his comeback, but Mitchell responded with the game’s fourth and his third 180. However, it was not enough to prevent Warren from halving the deficit.

Trailing by a set, Warren took the first leg after the restart, and he raced to four, then five, 180s as he hit something close to his top form.

Halting his opponent’s momentum, a bullseye checkout from Mitchell put him two legs ahead to one, but Warren was able to bring the scores level at two sets all. Then the Englishman blew a double 12 and saw Warren make it two legs apiece as he started to make clear his superiority.

Warren and Mitchell then claimed a set each to make it 3-3, but the Welshman secured two consecutive sets to leave him just one from the final.

In the ninth leg, another 180 allowed Warren to break his opponent’s throw and take a 2-0 lead. Warren was able to hold his nerve, leaving himself 56 needed with three darts remaining before converting.
