EWC ace Sylvain Guintoli insists he’s not feeling any pressure as he goes for a 24 Heures Motos treble victory for Yoshimura SERT Motul this weekend.
Guintoli, has been part of the winning team in the opening round of the FIM Endurance World Championship for the past two seasons.
Along with Gregg Black and team returnee Étienne Masson, Guintoli can claim a hat-trick of victories in the 24 Heures Motos for the Le Mans-based Franco-Japanese squad.
“There’s no pressure but we’ve been thinking and talking about it because it would be pretty cool to do that and not many people have,” said the 40-year-old Frenchman, who lives in the East Midlands region of the UK. “Normally we win this huge trophy, just the one but it’s massive and super-heavy and is the one they give us on the podium. But this one nobody gets to keep, we all get a miniature version of it. But what I heard is that anybody that wins it three times in a row can ask for a replica of the big trophy. So the aim is to get that because that would be pretty cool in the man cave, but I’m not sure how I’d bring it back to the UK!”
Of his chances of winning for a third time in succession, Guintoli said: “We feel good, we’ve got a very strong bike, very good tyres so we know we’re going to be in the mix. Gregg and Étienne are solid and experienced so we’re kind of confident we’re going to be there. But it was good to be on track together [during the Pre-Test], making sure everybody is relaxed before going into the race week.”
The 24 Heures Motos takes place from 13-16 April. Guintoli is pictured second from right following Yoshimura SERT Motul's victory in the EWC season opener 12 months ago.
