Karel Hanika will head to next month’s 24 Heures Motos as the rider to beat after he completed an astonishing sub-lap record run for Yamalube YART Yamaha EWC Official Team during the final day of the Pre-Test at Le Mans.
The Czech star, riding a Bridgestone-shod Yamaha YZF-R1 and backed up by team-mates Niccolò Canepa, Marvin Fritz and Robin Mulhauser, clocked a best effort of 1m34.759s around the 4.185-kilometre Circuit Bugatti, which eclipsed his record-breaking qualifying run of 1m34.878s set during last April’s 45th 24 Heures Motos.
Day one pacesetter BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team was second fastest on a 1m35.192s followed by ERC Endurance-Ducati (1m35.350s).
F.C.C. TSR Honda France, which claimed the 2022 FIM Endurance World Championship for Teams, was fourth quickest with a 1m35.542s charge followed by Le Mans-based Yoshimura SERT Motul (1m35.672s), which is going for a third successive 24 Heures Motos victory next month.
The Tecmas-MRP-BMW Racing Team, made up of riders Loïc Arbel, Maxime Bonnet, Jan Bühn and Kenny Foray, was quickest for the second day running among the Dunlop-equipped Superstock category contenders followed by 3ART Best of Bike and National Motos Honda.
EWC teams will get one final testing opportunity at Le Mans during private running on 11 April before official track activity for the EWC season-opening 24 Heures Motos gets underway on 13 April. The spectacular and hugely demanding twice-around-the-clock race begins at 15h00 CET on 15 April.
