Eight hours into the race, Team SRC Kawasaki France are still in command at the 24 Heures Motos but remain under threat from Honda Endurance Racing and Suzuki Endurance Racing Team.
The atmosphere is fraught in the Team SRC Kawasaki France ranks. Though the French Kawasaki squad have kept the lead for several hours now, they have been unable to shake off Honda Endurance Racing and Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, who are lapping in the same minute. A safety car intervention around 9pm reduced the gap separating the three teams in the lead.
YART Yamaha have managed to catch up after Niccolò Canepa ran wide, and are now in 4th place with a one-lap lead over Wepol Racing, Team ERC-BMW Motorrad Endurance and Bolliger Team Switzerland, a privateer squad who always keep pace with the factory teams.
In 8th place, the 1st Superstock team Motors Events are currently unencumbered by rivals. Junior Team Le Mans Sud Suzuki have been held up by a broken exhaust and GERT56 by GS Yuasa by running out of fuel and a subsequent crash.
In 9th place, National Motos are running a superb race after starting from 25th on the grid. Moto Ain round off the Top 10, having climbed back up after a crash early on in the race.
The Top 10 teams get the bonus points awarded to the 10 leading teams 8 and 16 hours into the race, which stack up alongside the bonus points given to the first 5 teams on the starting grid. This means that current race leaders Team SRC Kawasaki France have already scored 12 points.
A few of the favourites are missing from the Top 10. F.C.C. TSR Honda France, currently 18th, are continuing their climb back up after an early crash. After starting from 3rd on the grid, VRD Igol Pierret Expériences are finding their Formula EWC debut tough going. The Yamaha-mounted team are in 39th place as a result of three crashes. Webike Tati Team Trick Star have been slowed by electrical problems.
