Boosted by a second-place finish at the Bol d’Or, German team Wepol by Penz13 is now targeting the world title with a revamped line-up. Rico Penzkofer has recruited Michael Laverty and Christian Iddon to be Danny Webb’s co-riders on the BMW #13.
The competition for the 2017-2018 FIM EWC world title is getting increasingly fierce. Wepol by Penz13 is the latest to add its name to the list of contenders.
The German team picked up second place at the Bol d’Or, the first round of the season, with Markus Reiterberger, Alessandro Polita and Danny Webb riding the BMW S 1000 RR. Markus Reiterberger being currently unavailable as he is competing in the FIM Superstock 1000 championship, Wepol by Penz13 has roped in two UK riders who have raced the British Superbike championship. Christian Iddon took seventh place in the 2017 championship, while Michael Laverty finished 14th overall.
Michael Laverty has done a spell in MotoGP, and he is not a total newcomer to endurance. He raced with Honda TT Legends in 2012 and rode for YART Yamaha at the 24 Heures Motos and the 8 Hours of Oschersleben in 2014.
The two riders will be taking to the grid together with Danny Webb on Wepol by Penz13’s BMW at the 24 Heures Motos 2018 on 21 April.
