Beye ends Senegal career

The Newcastle stopper took the decision to retire from the national side following a disastrous African Cup of Nations, during which the Lions of Teranga failed to progress from the group stage.

The 3-1 Group D defeat to Angola proved to be Beye's last in a Senegal shirt.

Team-mate Lamine Diatta also took his retirement from the international scene following the 1-1 draw with South Africa, according to French daily Sud.

The news will be a fillip to Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan, who lost four players to the African Cup of Nations this year - Beye, Abdoulaye Faye, Geremi and Obafemi Martins.
