Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been left out of Didier Deschamps' France squad whilst Olivier Giroud and Ousmane Dembele return.
Martial broke into the France squad last year following his move from Monaco to United and he was part of the squad for the European Championships even though he lost his place in the starting XI to Dimitri Payet.
However he has struggled for form this season under new club manager Jose Mourinho and Deschamps touched upon this during his press conference to explain his selections.
"I think Mourinho - and I - expect more from him. Up to him to refind his best level, even though playing less now, in the attacking sector I have a vast but difficult choice," Deschamps said.
Martial has scored just twice in 11 games in all competitions this season and he is facing competition for his place from Juan Mata, Ashley Young and Marcus Rashford.
Arsenal forward Giroud returns following an injury, having scored three goals in his last two matches whilst Dembele, who has begun life well at Borussia Dortmund, is also in.
Other notable players to miss out include Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette, who is struggling for form, as well as Yohan Cabaye and Aymeric Laporte whilst Adrien Rabiot receives his first call-up.
France face Sweden next Friday before playing the Ivory Coast the following Tuesday.
