Chelsea thrash Leicester to keep Women's Super League title hopes on track, Arsenal beat Brighton to go third

Chelsea moved a step closer to winning the Women’s Super League as they eased to a 6-0 victory over Leicester. Pernille Harder scored twice for the Blues and Guro Reiten, Erin Cuthbert, Lauren James and Jelena Cankovic also netted. Chelsea are a point behind leaders Manchester United, having played a game less. Arsenal moved up to third with a 4-0 win over Brighton.

Chelsea still have their Women’s Super League title hopes in their own hands after a thumping 6-0 win over Leicester.

The result moves Chelsea a point behind leaders Manchester United with a game in hand.

Emma Hayes’ side raced into a 3-0 lead with goals from Guro Reiten, Erin Cuthbert and Pernille Harder inside the opening 32 minutes.

Harder made it 4-0 before half-time as Chelsea took further control of the game.

Leicester, who are bottom of the table and one point from safety, conceded a fifth in the 56th minute when Lauren James scored.

Jelena Cankovic rounded off the scoring in injury-time.

Chslea will go top if they win their next league game at West Ham on May 17.

Chelsea also face Manchester United in the Women's FA Cup final on May 14.

Arsenal moved up to third with a 4-0 victory over Brighton. Arsenal are above Manchester City on goal difference but also have a game in hand.

Stina Blackstenius scored twice in the opening eight minutes as Arsenal made a fast start.

Blackstenius could have had a hat-trick as she saw a goal ruled out for offside and headed against the bar.

Instead it was Frida Maanum who added the third in the 39th minute when she headed in. Victoria Pelova then made it 4-0 before the break.

Arsenal’s next game is against Everton on May 17.
