Women's Super League: Man City crush Brighton, Liverpool beat West Ham, Bristol City reduced to 10 in defeat at Man Utd

Manchester City swept aside Brighton 4-1 to claim their 10th consecutive win in the Women's Super League, while Liverpool overcame West Ham and Manchester United beat Bristol City.

City went ahead against Brighton on 27 minutes when Jess Park split the defence to pick out Lauren Hemp, whose left-footed effort beat Sophie Baggaley at the near post.

Hemp then turned provider when she found Mary Fowler running in from the opposite touchline to convert in the box as the Australian made it two.

Khadija Shaw then notched the third on 69 minutes, before Laura Coombs added a fourth for City as she tucked away Fowler’s cutback.

From there, City needed two more to go level with league leaders Chelsea on goal difference.

However it was a former City player, Lee Geum-Min who grabbed the last goal of the game as a lapse in concentration allowed the South Korean to score a consolation goal.

Victory means Manchester City move level on points with Chelsea, who beat Arsenal on Friday evening.

In their 3-1 win over West Ham, Liverpool struggled to break down the away side but three minutes from the end of normal time in the first half, they broke through to go ahead.

Mackenzie Arnold attempted to claim a loose ball for West Ham but the ball ran free for Leanne Kiernan.

The striker converted from close range just before the end of the first period, for her first goal of the season.

After the restart, Liverpool made it two when Ceri Holland’s inviting cross was met by substitute Missy Bo Kearns, who headed past Arnold.

Two became three when Sophie Roman Haug finished at the back post when West Ham failed to clear a cross, with the Norwegian angling in a volley.

Riko Ueki grabbed a consolation goal with three minutes of normal time remaining, but Liverpool held on for the win.

The win keeps Liverpool in fifth, and West Ham are 11th, six points clear of Bristol City.

At Leigh Sports Village, Lisa Naalsund scored both goals in Manchester United's 2-0 win over Bristol City.

The Norwegian received a pass from Lucia Garcia as she attacked from the midfield, and with Bristol City’s defenders backing away, space opened up for a shot from Naalsund. She aimed a left-footed effort into the bottom corner to put the home side ahead.

After the restart, Maya Le Tissier’s run through midfield opened up the City defence once more, and her backheel-assist was too heavy for Ella Toone to connect with properly.

With the game heading towards a potentially tense finish, Bristol City’s chances of claiming anything from the match were dealt a severe blow when Jamie-Lee Napier, booked early on, was given her marching orders for a late tackle on United’s Brazilian forward Geyse.

Naalsund was then on hand to grab her second to wrap up all three points, volleying home from a corner on 95 minutes.

The win keeps United in fourth, ahead of Liverpool on goal difference, while Bristol stay bottom with six points.

Tottenham's Matilda Vinberg needed just two minutes to score on her first WSL start, with the goal seeing Spurs beat Leicester City at Brisbane Road.

The Sweden international met Jessica Naz's delivery at the back post, before tapping home to give Spurs the early advantage.

In a fast start for the visitors, Drew Spence came close to adding a second for Tottenham 10 minutes later, but her long-range effort hit the crossbar.

Rebecca Spencer denied Leicester an equaliser in the dying minutes of the first half when the Jamaican pulled off a brilliant stop to deny Aileen Whelan.

Going into the game, Leicester had lost all four matches they had trailed at half-time in the WSL this season, but they almost equalised when Jutta Rantala’s strike crashed off the inside of the post.

Spurs had the ball in the net for a second time when Beth England slotted beyond Lize Kop late on, but the flag was raised for offside.

Robert Vilahamn’s side held on for a valuable three points which helped them to sustain their place in the top six.
