Chelsea needed to win against Liverpool on Wednesday night if they wanted to maintain a realistic hope of clinching another Women's Super League title. However, despite taking the lead, a frenetic end to the match in Liverpool saw Gemma Bonner's second goal - the latter scored in injury time - crowned a 4-3 victory for the home side. Chelsea now trail Manchester City by six points.

Gemma Bonner's injury-time header gave Liverpool a 4-3 win against Chelsea that look set to end Emma Hayes' team's Women's Super League title hopes.
Aggie Beever-Jones put the away side ahead after just nine minutes.
A corner from the right-hand side found the Chelsea player and she guided a header into the bottom corner to give the away side the early advantage.
For most of the remainder of the half, Liverpool created more and better chances than their rivals, but they were unable to put one away.
However, six minutes after the restart the two sides were level once more through Sophie Roman Haug for the Reds.
This time a corner came Liverpool’s way, and the unmarked Norwegian forward headed home.
The home side then went ahead on 65 minutes through defender Bonner, with a corner providing another breakthrough.
Her header bounced off Erin Cuthbert and into the net in what appeared to be an own goal.
Beever-Jones then equalised with nine minutes of normal time remaining, volleying home from close range, but a minute later Leanne Kiernan grabbed the lead back for Liverpool when she slotted home a through-ball.
In a frenetic end to the game, Catarina Macario received a clever pass from Cuthbert and her first-time shot stayed low and somehow avoided a mass of Liverpool bodies in defence.
It looked as if the game would somehow settle down for a draw, but Bonner headed in once more, deep into injury time as she beat Hannah Hampton to the far corner.
A win for Chelsea would have cut Manchester City’s lead at the top of the WSL to just three points, instead they trail by six points with a game in hand. Liverpool are chasing Manchester United above them in fourth, and are separated only by goal difference.
Chelsea play Bristol City in the next fixture on Sunday, while Liverpool host Manchester United.
