Bayern Munich earned a 1-0 victory over a resilient and organised Wolfsburg side at the Allianz Arena.
Despite scoring eight goals in their previous two matches, Bayern failed to create many chances but Thomas Muller eventually broke the dead lock on 62 minutes when he connected with Franck Ribery’s low driven cross.
Wolfsburg perhaps had the better chances of the game and the best opportunity fell for former Bayern Munich man Luis Gustavo whose header was acrobatically saved by Manuel Neuer in the opening five minutes.
The visitors continued to threaten in the second-half and Marcel Schäfer squandered a wonderful opportunity when he met Christian Träsch’s cross at the back post but somehow headed over from close range.
But just five minutes later, Bayern’s quality showed through when Muller slid Ribery’s cross past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
And Mario Mandžukic nearly doubled the home sides advantage only for some world class defending from Naldo who made a last ditch block off the line to deny the Croatian striker.
The victory seals another three points for the Bundesliga champions who have Manchester City in their sights next when they travel to England for Wednesday night’s Champions League fixture.
