Jamal Musiala's 89th-minute goal, three minutes after coming on as substitute, secured Bayern Munich's 11th successive Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund drawing at home with Mainz.
Dortmund went into the day in pole position, but soon this transferred to Bayern after Kingsley Coman's superb curling eighth-minute effort and the leaders falling behind early.
It seemed like Bayern had doubled their lead on the stroke of half time but Leroy Sane's fine goal was disallowed by VAR for a handball which occurred Linton Maina kicked the ball into his arm before the winger exchanged passes with Serge Gnabry and raced through to slot home off the post.
The title race was turned on its head nine minutes from time when VAR ruled Serge Gnabry's handball was inside the area and Dejan Ljubicic sent Yan Sommer the wrong way from the penalty spot.
For eight minutes the title was Dortmund's until Musiala, brought on in a desperate move four minutes from time, with almost his first touch created room outside the penalty area before driving an unstoppable shot inside the far post.
After the final day's results, Bayern ended the season level on points with Dortmund but possessing a 15-goal superior goal difference.

TALKING POINT - Bayern-Dusel strikes again

To modern fans who have only seen Bayern romp to titles they might not realise the number of times the Munich side pipped more deserving sides to championships. This earned them the nickname Bayern-Dusel (which translates as 'undeserved luck') in the 1970s when they got more glory at home and abroad than the more popular Borussia Monchengladbach. This was before more extreme last-day Devon Loch moments which saw them victorious in 1985-86 at the expense of Werder Bremen, and in back-to-back years at the start of the Millennium when Michael Ballack's own goal denied the fantastic Bayer Leverkusen side a title and Patrik Andersson's unlikely injury-time goal denied Schalke glory. This from Dortmund is a worthy addition to the biggest heartbreaks in any German history list inflicted by Bayern for whom Jamal Musiala produced a lethal blow worthy of Gerd Muller, Karl-Heinz Rumenigge, Arjen Robben or Robert Lewandowski. As unfair as it seems for Dortmund, the character of these Bayern champions down the years is why their rivals and not them have wilted when matches mattered most.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich)

He was a magnificent presence in the first hour of the match, with his great goal giving Bayern what looked like their crucial lead and contributing to moments which could have seem them go further ahead. It has been said before, but if he can be granted a full season at full fitness he could lift his game on a par with some of the best in the game.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

8' GOAL FOR BAYERN! Coman with a cracker, cutting in from the left flank he curls an unstoppable effort inside the goalkeeper's top left corner.
19' OFF THE POST! Muller rises like a salmon at the back post to meet Pavard's pinpoint cross but the effort hits the post.
45' GOAL FOR BAYERN! Sane with a fine individual goal. He collected the ball by the right touchline, ten yards inside the Koln half, then played a one-two with Gnabry before arrowing in towards the goal and sliding home a calm finish in off the post.
45' GOAL DISALLOWED! Seems a bit harsh, the ball flicked Sane's arm when he went for a challenge with Maina shortly before the ball fell for him. Still 1-0!
80' PENALTY GIVEN! Initially the referee awarded a free kick for a handball from Gnabry, but VAR sent him the message the offence was in the box.
80' GOAL FOR KOLN! Ljubicic sends Sommer the wrong way from the spot. What a last ten minutes or so we have now.
