Carney relishing Wembley return

The 27-year-old played at Wembley at London 2012 as Team GB shocked Brazil 1-0 to progress to the quarter-final stage, where they went out to Canada.

Carney is likely to start for England as they take on two-time world champions Germany in an historic friendly today.

It will be the first time England’s ladies play at Wembley Stadium since it’s refurbishment at the turn of the century, and with a 55,000 crowd expected the game is set to smash the record attendance for a home women’s international.

The Birmingham City forward is in line to win her 100th cap for England, but insisted the massive milestone for women’s football in Britain is far more important.

"What a great occasion to have 55,000 people there this Sunday for the first time the female side have played at the new Wembley, and against Germany as well," she said.

"It’s exciting, but I don’t think it will hit us until we are there. We’re really excited and I’ve been saying to everybody that it’s every boy’s dream and every girl’s dream to play at Wembley.

"It will be a massive milestone and to get 55,000 people there shows the market for women’s football.

"Going forward after this game I think there will be a lot more people that have more interest in us. So I think it is a massive game and occasion for us."
