The game at the Etihad Stadium finished in a goalless draw and after the match City manager and former Madrid Coach Manuel Pellegrini claimed Los Blancos set out to keep the tie tight.
“I didn’t see it like that. It’s hard to play against a strong team who want possession and we did what we could. In the second half we attacked more, we had more chances to win. We didn’t set out for the draw,” AS reports Marcelo saying.
Pellegrini also claimed the injury suffered by David Silva in the first half was a turning point in the tie, Marcelo agreeing that the departure of the Spain international worked in Madrid’s favour.
“He’s a great player. We had to keep an eye on him, but everything went well. He’s an important absence, but the team won’t notice,” Marcelo continued.
President Perez was spotted entering the Madrid locker room post-match, Marcelo confirming his presence.
“We welcomed him in, and, as always, he supported us.”
