The young German goalkeeper Ter Stegen, 23, was signed from Borussia Monchengladbach for around 12 million Euros last year, but has proven to be a key strand of Barca's match to a second treble in six years of Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League, playing in all 12 of their outings in Europe's premier tournament.
Ter Stegen has been called upon in the Copa del Rey and Europe with Claudio Bravo operating in all 38 of his club's matches in Liga.
He has conceded 15 goals in 20 matches, and will be in goal on Saturday night when Barcelona face Juventus in the Champions League final.
“Ter Stegen surprised me a lot from the first day," said Messi. “He could be the best in the world in a few years.”
Iniesta concurs with the Messi train of thought.
“He is well-rounded in every aspect of his game," said Iniesta. "We are really pleased with him."
Manuel Neuer of Bayern Munich remains arguably the world's finest goalkeeper, but Ter Stegen is content to be patient as he develops with club and country.
In an interview with UEFA.com, Ter Stegen said: "It's difficult for me, being in and out of the team and not playing all the games, but that's part of the development of a player and I'm glad I can play in the Champions League – when that anthem plays I get goosebumps.”
