There remains one match left to play, but it seems as good a time as any to look at the players who have
So Eurosport teamed up with the guys at Opta Stats to put together the finest team in the world's finest club tournament. We've stipulated a minimum of 600 minutes playing time to earn eligibility, in order to prevent any oddities like a teenage Bulgarian goalkeeper having a storming night in a dead rubber in the final group stage game. Otherwise, this is a pure XI based only on the stats.
There's no surprise to see Barcelona dominate, with four players from the Liga champions - and hot favourites for the title - making our XI.
What's probably a bigger surprise is that Barca'a fellow finalists, Juventus, make the last match of the tournament without getting a single player into this elite squad.
Whether Juventus will prove to be the ultimate team when up against a Barcelona side that has the ultimate individual talent is a question which will only be settled on Saturday night.
THE TEAM
The Champions League Team of the Season
Andriy Pyatov (Shakhtar Donetsk) - Rating: 77
The Ukrainian goalkeeper kept four clean sheets in eight matches in the tournament, making a cracking 29 saves and even keeping the last-16 first leg against Bayern Munich goalless. Let's all just agree to forget that night that he shipped seven in the return match in Munich...
Dani Alves (Barcelona) - Rating: 80
The veteran Brazilian full-back is expected to leave Barca at the end of the season, but it's not been through a loss of form. Well into his 30s, he's remained at his marauding best and has four assists in the Champions League - more than any other defender.
Alex Sandro (FC Porto) - Rating: 79
Porto's star defender made more tackles than any other player in the Champions League this season, with 37.
Jerome Boateng (FC Bayern München) - Rating: 79
The Germany international got his campaign off to a great start with a goalscoring, man-of-the-match performance against Manchester City back in September - and hasn't looked back, totting up 40 clearances, 26 interceptions, three goals and three assists.
Jordi Alba (Barcelona) - Rating: 80
Barca's left-back averages 99 touches of the ball per match in Champions League - the only other defender who has been more involved in the tournament is Alves.
Koke (Atlético de Madrid) - Rating: 76
Atletico's key midfielder has four assists in the tournament - only Lionel Messi and Hector Herrera have more. Herrera was unlucky to be beaten to this midfield spot, with Koke's other attributes marginally outweighing the Mexican's achievements.
Cesc Fàbregas (Chelsea) - Rating: 77
Chelsea's key player in the tournament, with 76 passes - the most of any player outside of Barcelona or Bayern Munich. Had he been fully fit and well instead of being rushed back to face PSG, the Blues could surely have gone further in the tournament.
Eden Hazard (Chelsea) - Rating: 85
His 51 successful dribbles is second only to Messi - albeit 31 fewer than the Argentine superstar.
Lionel Messi (Barcelona) - Rating: 91
Quite simply in the form of his life. To average a rating of over 90 in the most exacting tournament in club football is a quite extraordinary achievement, and his 10 goals and five assists have been pivotal for Barca.
Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) - Rating: 86
Real Madrid might have fallen short, but they would have fallen short more quickly if it weren't for his 10 goals and three assists.
Neymar (Barcelona) - Rating: 84
The Brazilian has bagged nine goals in the tournament, just one fewer than Messi and Ronaldo, and could well finish as the tournament's top scorer if he has a good night on Saturday.
