Arsenal's Champions League record of woe against Barcelona

Arsenal’s nightmare Champions League draw was confirmed on Monday as they were handed a two-legged tie against European champions Barcelona in the last-16.
Arsene Wenger has suffered nothing but disappointment against Barcelona in Europe, with Arsenal now having faced the Catalans in five different seasons, and three of the past six years.
Here is Arsenal’s record of woe against the five-time European Cup winners…
1999-2000
Group stages: Barcelona 1-1 Arsenal; Arsenal 2-4 Barcelona
Arsenalo enjoyed a very creditable 1-1 draw at Camp Nou with Nwankwo Kanu scoring with nine minutes remaining against a Barca side which included Luis Figo, Rivaldo, Pep Guardiola and current coach Luis Enrique. But Barca turned on the style in the return fixture at Wembley, with Rivaldo opening the scoring from the penalty sport after 14 minutes before goals from Enrique, Philip Cocu and Figo. Dennis Bergkamp and Marc Overmars scored for Arsenal but Wenger’s side failed to make it out of the group, finishing behind Barca and Fiorentina.
2005-2006
Final: Arsenal 1-2 Barcelona
Possibly the most painful night of Wenger’s career. Arsenal were given little chance against a Barcelona team containing Ronaldinho, Deco and Samuel Eto’o but took the lead through a Sol Campbell header on 37 minutes. Jens Lehmann’s red card put Arsenal up against it but it was not until the substitution of Henrik Larsson on 61 minutes that Barca began to turn the tide. After Thierry Henry had missed a golden chance to put Arsenal 2-1 in front, Barca hit back with goals from Eto’o and Juliano Belletti in the final 15 minutes.
2009-2010
Quarter-finals: Arsenal 2-2 Barcelona; Barcelona 4-1 Arsenal
Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona had won the treble in his first season and, with Lionel Messi now installed as a false nine, they absolutely tore into Arsenal in a terrifying opening 20 minutes at Emirates Stadium. Wenger’s side somehow made it to half-time 0-0, thanks to some heroics from goalkeeper Manuel Almunia, but it was a brutal display from Barca and they soon scored twice through Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Arsenal had some hope ahead of the second leg thanks to goals from Theo Walcott and Cesc Fabregas, but Messi then gave the best performance of his career up to that point, scoring all four in a devastating performance at Camp Nou.
2010-2011
Last-16: Arsenal 2-1; Barcelona 3-1 Arsenal
David Villa opened the scoring after 26 minutes at Emirates Stadium and it appeared as though Arsenal were going down a similar route, but then Robin van Persie levelled after 78 minutes and Andrei Arshavin struck a brilliant winner with just seven minutes to go. Guardiola’s men had a nervy second leg too, despite the scoreline, as Van Persie was harshly dismissed for kicking the ball away and Nicklas Bendtner was about 10cm away from connecting with a shot which would have put Arsenal through, against the odds.
