Tottenham slump to Monaco defeat at Wembley

Tottenham were undone by defensive lapses as Monaco claimed a 2-1 win at Wembley.

Spurs, playing at the national stadium while White Hart Lane undergoes renovation, fell behind to first-half goals from Bernardo Silva and Thomas Lemar.

Toby Alderweireld pulled one back on the stroke of half-time, but they were unable to find a leveller despite dominating for long spells.

Harry Kane tried his best to create what he could, but he was kept relatively quiet by good defensive work from Jemerson and Kamil Glik.

As the clock ticked down, Monaco were happy to retain possession and Tottenham were limited to the occasional counter-attack, to which Monaco stopper Danijel Subasic was more than equal.

Is playing at Wembley actually giving Tottenham any advantage? They tried their best beforehand to make it like a home game, but the players looked lost. Could it be that it just entices the opposition to raise their game at the famous ground?

55’ - CONFUSION! Fabinho gets booked after some pushing and shoving in the box in preparation for a corner. Tottenham fans think they've got a penalty, and Monaco are clearly worried that might be the case. No. Just a corner.

77’ - CHANCE FOR TOTTENHAM! Cross from Walker down the right, and Alli finds himself with the ball but with his back to goal. He turns and tries to curl his shot, but Subisic holds.
