Jurgen Klopp's side drew 3-3 at Watford on Saturday in the opening match of the new Premier League season with Alberto Moreno retained at left-back despite attracting heavy criticism for his performance.
The former Sevilla defender was seen smiling after Liverpool fell 1-0 behind at Watford, but has been preferred ahead of James Milner, who is again on the bench.
There is no place in the 18-man squad for Scotland left-back Andy Robertson, the club's summer signing from Hull City.
Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho is out due to a back injury while Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge remain missing for Liverpool.
Liverpool secured fourth place in the Premier League last season and were handed the added advantage of a European seeding, ensuring they could not draw the highest ranked teams in the qualifiers.
But Klopp’s side could have got a far easier draw than Bundesliga club Hoffenheim, who started their season with a 1-0 German Cup win over Erfurt on Saturday.
Serge Gnabry, the former Arsenal winger, starts for the home team.
Hoffenheim: Nagelsmann, Baumann, Kaderabek, Bicakcic, Rupp, Demirbay, Wagner, Zuber, Hubner, Vogt, Kramaric, Gnabry...subs: Kobel, Amiri, Geiger, Nordtveit, Uth, Toljan, Szalai.
Liverpool: Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Lovren, Moreno, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Can, Mane, Salah, Firmino...subs: Karius, Klavan, Gomez, Milner, Grujic, Solanke, Origi
