Tottenham survived a first-half onslaught before Harry Kane delivered the knockout blow at Borussia Dortmund to send Spurs into the Champions League last eight 4-0 on aggregate.
Defending a 3-0 lead going into the second leg in Germany, Spurs knew one goal would leave Dortmund needing five to reach the next round.
And after Hugo Lloris produced a number of stunning saves to deny the hosts, Kane curled in Spurs’ winner on the night to complete a thoroughly professional two-legged display.
The draw for the quarter-finals will take place on March 15, with Ajax also joining Spurs in the pot on Tuesday night after the Dutch side knocked out holders Real Madrid.

TALKING POINT

How far can Spurs go in Europe?
Why not all the way? English winning sides of yesteryear, namely Chelsea (2012) and Liverpool (2005) were far from the best team domestically when they triumphed in the Champions League, and both proved you need slices of good fortune to advance in this competition.
There is no reason why that luck could not befall Spurs – they survived a first-half onslaught from Dortmund without conceding, and will not fear any challenge as they go into the last eight. The throne is there to be taken after Real Madrid’s early exit, and much like a certain television show, few know how it will actually end.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Hugo Lloris (Tottenham) – Jan Vertonghen followed up his first-leg heroics with an outstanding defensive display, while Moussa Sissoko was equally as impressive, but it was Tottenham’s goalkeeper and captain Lloris who crucially deflated Dortmund’s hopes in the first half, making seven saves in total.

KEY MOMENTS

11’ - What a tackle! Hero of the first leg, Vertonghen makes a vital sliding tackle to deny Reus just as he was about to pull the trigger inside the area. Had to get that right!
21’ - SAVE! Guerrerio picks out Reus on the edge of the area, and he takes a touch before shooting - his effort deflects off Sanchez and Lloris ends up parrying it into the air before collecting at the second time of asking.
32’ - WIDE! Big moment for Spurs and Son...Eriksen's through ball finds the South Korean, but he is nudged as he pokes the ball wide of the near post. He wants a foul (outside the area), the Dortmund defenders want to see the offside flag. It would have been a tight call but again VAR is not needed.
35’ - FOUR BIG CHANCES! WOW... the cross comes in and Weigl's header is saved by Lloris before his follow-up attempt is blocked by Davies.
From the resulting corner, Reus' volley from the edge of the area is deflected over by Sanchez, and THEN Gotze's curler is denied by the palm of Lloris.
49’ - GOAL! KANE DELIVERS THE KNOCKOUT BLOW! Kane beats the offside trap to meet Sissoko's pass, and he curls it in at the near post to kill the tie off.
90’ - SAVE! That just about sums it all up... Alcacer is through on goal but his shot is saved by the feet of Lloris.
