Luka Modric has expressed his backing for Carlo Ancelotti to continue as Real Madrid manager despite the team's 4-0 loss to Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final. When asked whether the Italian should remain, Modric highlighted Ancelotti's achievements and asserted that the defeat should not overshadow his contributions. Ancelotti has been linked to the Brazil job in recent months.

'Ancelotti deserves to continue' - Modric backs Real coach after UCL exit

Luka Modric has expressed his support for manager Carlo Ancelotti to remain as Real Madrid manager following their devastating 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
Real Madrid have failed to defend their title after losing to Pep Guardiola's side 5-1 on aggregate.
The Spanish club will finish the season with the Copa del Rey as the only trophy won, failing to beat rivals Barcelona to both La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.
Despite the disappointing result in the Champions League, Modric has said that he does not doubt Ancelotti's capabilities, emphasising the titles the coach has won since his return to the club.
Speaking about Ancelotti's future, Modric stated: "Yes, I think that the Mister (coach) deserves to continue. I have no doubts. Since he arrived for the second time, he won all the titles. Last year we had an incredible season.
"In Copa del Rey, in Champions League, we did very well until today. That's why I have no doubt about him staying.
"He deserves it for everything he does and everything he has done, for what he brings to this team - experience, quality. I think that we play very well, and, as I told you, there's no need to make a drama because of this defeat."
Reflecting on the match against Manchester City, Modric acknowledged the team's shortcomings, admitting that City had been superior.
He said: "We didn't perform well, and obviously, we wanted to play a better match. But (Manchester) City have been superior. You have to admit it, congratulate them, and that's it."
With Ancelotti's contract set to expire in 2024, there have been speculations about his potential departure to join the Brazilian national team once the 2022-23 season concludes.
Back in March, Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson had claimed that there was a high possibility that Ancelotti would manage Brazil. Former manager Tite left the role after the 2022 World Cup.
"I was discussing this with Casemiro, Vinicius Junior, [Eder] Militão. There is a big possibility that [Ancelotti] comes," Ederson said in a press conference while with the national team.
"Just look at his CV. We will know shortly whether he will be here or not."
However, Modric's endorsement of Ancelotti's leadership suggests a desire for the coach to remain at Real Madrid.
Much like his manager, Modric's future at Real Madrid has also been uncertain in recent weeks.
The 37-year-old's deal at the Santiago Bernabeu expires this summer.
