An undisclosed fee has been established with the Flying Donkeys for the 19-year-old, who will sign a four-year contract at Loftus Road on July 1.
It is the first signing since new boss Iain Dowie took over following the departure of Luigi De Canio, and their third of the summer after Radek Cerny and Peter Ramage were acquired from Tottenham and Newcastle respectively.
QPR's co-owner, Flavio Briatore, is Italian, as is chairman Gianni Paladini.
The deal was announced on the Championship club's official website, which admitted that Brescia-born Alberti had never played in the league for Chievo but claimed that they had fended off competition from several Serie A clubs.
As part of the transfer Chievo will play QPR in a pre-season friendly in West London on August 2.
