Clark: Ravel as good as Gazza

Morrison's two goals ended Rangers' barren run of five games without a win and Clark admitted it was entirely due to the hugely-talented midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Birmingham.

Clark, who recommended the 21-year-old Morrison to Rangers boss Harry Redknapp, said: "He is the best footballer since Paul Gascoigne.

"If Paul Gascoigne had not done his knee he would have become the best player in the world.

"I played with Paul. I grew up with Paul. The only thing is that Ravel doesn't know who Paul Gascoigne is!

"He has the pace of a wide-man. He has the balance but plays in the middle of the pitch because he can manoeuvre the ball.

"Ravel can score goals as we have seen. It is what is between the ears with him and he knows about this problem.

"He now has a perfect manager because Harry Redknapp loves those type of players.

"Ravel can change games and I thought he was a class act against Birmingham.

"I was hoping that he would continue doing it for West Ham because I would love to see him on that plane to Brazil. He would certainly be capable of doing something for England coming off the bench for ten minutes in any environment."

Redknapp ducked out of the post-match press conference but he had every reason to be satisfied with Rangers' long-awaited win and in particular with Morrison on his third appearance for the London club on loan from West Ham.

Morrison opened the scoring with a splendid goal direct from a 14th-minute free-kick and added his second in the 72nd minute when he side-footed home a low pass from Jermaine Jenas to give Rangers only their second win in their past seven games.

In the absence of Redknapp, his deputy Kevin Bond said: "We are delighted with the win on the back of a difficult time we have had recently.

"Keeping a clean sheet was pleasing and Morrison's two goals was a terrific performance as he created all sorts of problems.

"No-one doubts his talents and what he can give to a team. It would appear that he has had other issues which has prevented from showing of what he is capable.

"He has only been with us a short time, but against Birmingham he has shown what a good player he is at the present time. Certainly he is one of the most talented individuals in the Championship and I think he would be a credit to any league if he can apply himself."

It was yet another disappointment for Clark, as the Midlands club have now failed to win any of their past 12 home games.

In view of their off-the-field problems it is fortunate Birmingham have picked up some vital points on their travels to keep them out of the relegation dog-fight.

An under-pressure Clark admitted: "We had a few good spells but didn't make most of them and paid the ultimate penalty when Rangers killed off the game with two fantastic goals."
