First half goals by Jared Borgetti and Antonio Naelson paved the way as Mexico enjoyed an impressive 2-1 victory against archrivals the United States Sunday in a CONCACAF region World Cup qualifier. The Mexicans top the group with just two of ten matches played.

The hosts dominated the proceedings for most of the match with Borgetti opening the scoring in the 30th minute when he headed in a knock-back from Jaime Lozano.
Three minutes later as the U.S. defence was caught flat as an unmarked Naelson collected a flicked-on header from Borgetti before clipping neatly past Kasey Keller.
In a wide-open second half, the U.S. moved Landon Donovan into attack from the five-man midfield and it brought an instant change to their game.
The Americans pulled a goal back in the 58th minute as Donovan worked a one-two with Eddie Johnson before finding Eddie Lewis alone on the left, the midfielder firing home from 15 metres.
Pavel Pardo almost restored Mexico's two-goal cushion but was denied by Keller, who also denied Ramon Morales 12 minutes from time.
After two games Mexico top the group on six points, two ahead of Guatemala, who beat Trinidad and Tobago 5-1 on Saturday.
The United States have three points, as do Costa Rica, 2-1 winners against Panama.
