Bayern Munich beat Mainz 4-0 at the last-16 stage of the DFB-pokal on Wednesday. Maxim Choupo-Moting, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane and Alphonso Davies scored the goals but new arrival Joao Cancelo made a decisive contribution – providing the assist for the opener – on his debut after a surprise deadline day move from Premier League champions Manchester City.

'It was a hard time!' – New signing Jorginho recalls playing Arsenal this season

Joao Cancelo marked his debut for Bayern Munich with an assist as Julian Nagelsmann’s side put four past Mainz in a 4-0 win to make the DFB-pokal quarter-final.
The Portuguese full-back swung over a cross for Maxim Choupo-Moting to volley Bayern into the lead with 17 minutes gone.
And Bayern – whose patchy form in recent weeks saw them draw three straight games, against RB Leipzig, Köln and Eintracht Eintracht, in the Bundesliga – put the tie to bed before the interval. First, Jamal Musiala drilled an effort past Finn Dahmen from the edge of the box with just 30 minutes on the clock, and then, a minute before half time, Choupo-Moting turned provider, sending Leroy Sane away to slot home.
Alphonso Davies put gloss on an already polished performance when he headed home a fourth from a Joshua Kimmich cross with 83 minutes gone.
A poor challenge from Alexander Hack on Musiala then saw the Mainz centre half receive his marching orders on 86 minutes, just minutes after coach Bo Svensson was dismissed for dissent.
RB Leipzig beat Hoffenheim 3-1 in the other last 16 tie on Wednesday, while Union Berlin and Stuttgart both had 2-1 wins.
The other remaining matches take place next week.
