In-depth features

As the tournament progresses we will have in-depth on-site content published daily. Here is a collection of some of our pre-tournament features.
+ + +
Germany's rise to the top of international football has been built on their much-vaunted academy revolution, writes Jonathan Wilson, but has it left them short in one key area?
"This is a Germany with many potential weaknesses. But then there’s also a sense that they’ve been coasting since the World Cup, that once proper competition kicks in, they’ll rediscover their tenacity and the glitches that have characterised the past two years will melt away."
+ + +
Forget that shock defeat to Georgia, writes Pete Jenson, Spain are a formidable force and could win a third straight European Championship if a certain player fires.
"Spain ought to conformably make the last four but maybe then they will need something more. Iniesta and Silva – both veterans of the 2008 win when the country's golden era began – may hold the key but perhaps it will be Morata who really needs to step forward."
+ + +
Jim White reports from the Wales camp, where an eye-catching haircut from Aaron Ramsey reveals something important about Chris Coleman's squad.
"Indeed, what is striking about the Welsh is not that Ramsey lords it, thinking of himself as somehow detached, a Premier League stalwart among Championship also-rans. It is that they come across as all in it together."
+ + +
Belgium have some of the best players at Euro 2016, writes Miguel Delaney, so why aren't they performing like it?
"Wilmots has raised results to a certain level and Belgium will certainly be hard to beat. It’s just that they should find winning so much easier."
+ + +
Graham Ruthven explores the contrast between the high expectations of hosts France and the controversies threatening to end their campaign before it starts.
"The next month could feasibly witness an even greater disintegration than the one that marred their 2010 World Cup campaign, when a player insurrection ruined their chances in South Africa. Even in such a position of apparent strength, it shouldn’t be overlooked that France are always capable of beating France."
+ + +
Roy Hodgson is a man preoccupied with the bright future he foresees for England, writes Alex Hess, but he needs a productive present if he is to realise it.
"The problem for Hodgson, which has so often been the problem for Hodgson over the years, is that the glorious future he loves to assure us of must be balanced against the need to achieve something – anything – in the present."
+ + +
Ireland's Euro 2012 campaign was the worst in the country's history, writes Ken Early, but Martin O'Neill has banished memories of Giovanni Trapattoni's reign.
Ken Early on Ireland -
"Ireland’s mission for Euro 2016 is simple. We must do better than the last time. This should not be too difficult to achieve, since the last time, Ireland produced the worst statistical performance by any team in the history of the European Championships."
