Hungary took a small but significant step towards their first major finals since 1986 with a surprise 1-0 win over Norway in the first-leg of their Euro 2016 play-off in Oslo.
The Magical Magyars rode their luck for large periods as the Scandinavians dominated throughout, but Bernd Storck's side will now be confident of booking their place in France next summer thanks to László Kleinheisler's dipping drive.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a debut to remember as he capped a fine box-to-box display with a 26th minute winner that somehow squirmed past an otherwise under-worked Orjan Nyland.
The hosts had roared out of the traps but found Gabor Kiraly, who was making his 100th appearance for his country, in inspired form. The ex-Crystal Palace stopper brilliantly denied Per Ciljan Skjelbred in the fourth minute and also kept out attempts from Alexander Søderlund and Stefan Johansen as Norway piled forward.
Ultimately, it was a night to forget for the hosts who should have had a penalty when Omar Elabdellaoui was blatantly tugged back by Tamás Kádár, while Pål André Helland saw a late header bounce back off the crossbar.
It was a real smash and grab for Hungary who beat Norway for the first time in 34 years, securing a victory that will feel like a fitting tribute to former national team keeper, Marton Fulop after it was announced he had passed away at the age of just 32.
The result leaves the Scandinavians with it all to do in the return leg which takes place in Budapest on Sunday.

KEY MOMENTS

4' - NORWAY CHANCE! A lightning break down the left sees Henriksen cut the ball back for Sjelbred whose first-time drive from 10 yards out is brilliantly pushed over the top by Kiraly.
9' - HUNGARY CHANCE! The ball is worked into Kleinheisler on the right of the area and he lets fly with an audacious volley from a narrow angle that Nyland does well to push to safety.
26' - GOAL! NORWAY 0-1 HUNGARY. The visitors lead. László Kleinheisler receives the ball on the right side of the area, sets himself with a neat first touch and fizzes a thumping shot into the far corner that somehow squeezes past Nyland. The keeper should have done much better there.
57' - NORWAY PENALTY SHOUT! Omar Elabdellaoui bursts into the area on the right but is clearly tugged back by Tamás Kádár who is not penalised by referee Mark Clattenburg despite having a chunk of his opponent's shirt. Big let off for Hungary.
72' - NORWAY CHANCE! Mayhem in the Hungary defence. A corner is hung up towards Kiraly who drops it under pressure from two attackers. He looks at the ref for a free kick who waves away his appeals. It's hacked up into the air by Fiola who was on the line to deny Norway an equaliser.
88'- OFF THE BAR! How did that stay out? Johansen breaks free on the left but sees his shot brilliantly blocked by Kiraly. The rebound falls for Helland whose header crashes back off the bar with the goal gaping.

KEY STATS

Gábor Király is the second Hungarian to reach 100 caps and is now one shy of the team record (101 by József Boszik).
Based on the first leg result, Hungary's chances of reaching Euro2016 are now at 88.6% with Norway's at 11.4%.

TALKING POINT. Norway's rotten luck. It was one of those nights for the home side. They made a supercharged start, but couldn't find a way past Kiraly before seeing their task made harder by an error from Nyland, who was a spectator for most of the evening. A big penalty appeal went against them in the second half while the woodwork intervened late on when they did find a way past Kiraly. The tie is still finely poised, but they are going to have to find their shooting boots on Sunday if they are to turn it around and reach their first finals since 2000.

MAN OF THE MATCH

László Kleinheisler (Hungary). A debut to remember. Was his side's main goal threat with some adventurous set-up play followed by some sharp-shooting, with one of those efforts resulting in the goal. A real box-to-box midfield performance.
