Spain beat Cyprus to close on Euro 2024 qualifying group win ahead of Scotland, Austria leapfrog Belgium

Spain look set to finish as Group A winners in Euro 2024 qualifying after beating Cyprus 3-1. Lamine Yamal, 16, netted his second goal in three appearances to set Spain on their way to a win that moves them two points ahead of second-placed Scotland, who drew 2-2 with Georgia. Austria went top of Group F with a 2-0 win over Estonia. Cristiano Ronaldo scored as Portugal stayed perfect.

Spain are in pole position to finish as UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying Group A winners ahead of Scotland after beating Cyprus 3-1.
Spain and Scotland went into the last two qualifying matches level on 15 points and both having secured their spots at next summer’s Euros in Germany.
Spain’s win in Cyprus and Scotland’s draw in Georgia means Spain now have a two-point lead at the top of the group with one round of matches left to play. The head-to-head record is equal but Spain have a plus-nine superior goal difference.
Spain finish against Georgia at home while Scotland host Norway.
The five qualifying group winners with the most points will join hosts Germany in Pot 1 in the Euro 2024 draw.
The other five group winners will go into Pot 2, alongside the best group runner-up, which now looks unlikely to be Scotland after their draw against Georgia.
Spain took the lead against Cyprus after just five minutes as 16-year-old Lamine Yamal netted his second goal in three appearances.
Mikel Oyarzabal made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute and Real Madrid’s Joselu added a third soon afterwards.
Kostas Pileas scored in the 75th minute for Cyprus but it was too late to impact the result.
Scotland would have stayed level with Spain had they won in Georgia, but instead they could only take a point.
Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored both goals for Georgia either side of an equaliser from Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
Lawrence Shankland made it 2-2 in the second minute of stoppage-time.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored as Portugal continued their perfect record with a 2-0 win against Liechtenstein.
Ronaldo netted the opening goal in the 47th minute and Joao Cancelo added the second.
Portugal have won nine from nine in the group and will be joined at Euro 2024 by second-placed Slovakia, who won 4-2 against Iceland.
Luxembourg recorded their fourth win of the group as they beat Bosnia & Herzegovina 4-1.
In Group F, Austria moved top as they finished their campaign with a 2-0 win over Estonia.
Konrad Laimer and Philipp Lienhart scored for Austria, who will finish top if Belgium fail to win their last match.
Belgium are two points behind Austria and host Azerbaijan on Sunday.
Both Austria and Belgium have already qualified for Euro 2024.
Sweden’s poor qualifying campaign continued as they lost 3-0 to Azerbaijan. Janne Andersson's side are third in Group F, 10 points adrift of Belgium.
Hungary missed the chance to win Group G as they drew 2-2 against Bulgaria, who are bottom of the group.
Hungary are two points ahead of Serbia, with both sides having one match left to play.
Hungary host Montenegro on Sunday and Serbia are at home against Bulgaria.
Montenegro beat Lithuania 2-0 and are two points behind second-placed Serbia, who have a plus-six superior goal diference.
England will be looking to secure top spot in Group C when they play Malta at Wembley on Friday.
