Sevilla through to final after dramatic goal against Valencia

Sevilla booked their place in the Europa League final after Stephane Mbia's last-gasp header sent the Andalucians through on away goals following a 3-1 defeat on the night.

Mbia's powerful header in stoppage time cancelled out goals from Sofiane Feghouli, Jonas and Jeremy Mathieu at the Mestalla after a determined fight-back from a 2-0 first leg deficit.

The highest scorers in the competition this season took only 13 minutes to break the deadlock through talented playmaker Feghouli when the Algerian turned inside and fired past Sevilla keeper Beto.

The second goal was simply a matter of time for high-pressing Valencia. On the left wing, Juan Bernat delivered an inch-perfect cross in the 25th minute for Jonas who headed home off the woodwork and past the helpless Sevilla keeper.

Valencia scored a third on 69 minutes when Mathieu struck his first Europa League goal of the season to send the home fans into raptures. It was the first time Valencia had gone ahead in this tie.

Yet, despite lacking clear-cut chances, Sevilla broke thousands of hearts inside the Mestalla when Mbia, on loan from Queens Park Rangers, headed past Alves from inside the six-yard-box to mark a historic return to Valencia for ex-boss Unai Emery.

Emery's side face Portuguese side Benfica in the final on May 14th at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.

13' - GOAL! (Valencia 1-0 Sevilla). Valencia open the scoring through Algerian maestro Sofiane Feghouli. The midfielder taking the ball from Joao Pereira down the inside-right channel, swivelling back on to his stronger left-foot and shooting past Beto with the help of Coke's deflection.

25' - GOAL! (Valencia 2-0 Sevilla). The scores are level! Valencia find that second goal, carved open by a delicious left-foot cross from Bernat, which sits perfectly on to Jonas' head and Beto can't keep the ball out after the effort struck the woodwork.

35' - GREAT SAVE! Valencia's Diego Alves is called into action, making a low block to prevent Jose Antonio Reyes sliding in at the far-post after a very clever back-heel from Carlos Bacca.

69' - GOAL! (Valencia 3-0 Sevilla). Valencia take the lead in the tie for the first time, as French defender Jeremy Mathieu reacts quickest inside the six-yard-box from a bouncing second-ball to score the home side's third of the evening.

90+4' - GOAL! (Valencia 3-1 Sevilla). Out of nothing. Sevilla score to put them ahead on away goals through on-loan Stephane Mbia. The Valencia players slump to the turf in dejection.

How will Sevilla fare against Benfica? Unai Emery's side were far from convincing in the return leg, but did enough to sneak through by the skin of their teeth. Benfica, however, have looked solid throughout the tournament; possessing a good core of experience with some talent in attack. The suspension to Markovic may prove pivotal, but Sevilla need to compose themselves, perhaps, contrasting the eccentricity of Emery on the touchline. Experience is crucial - and Sevilla can count on many forays into the final of Europe's second club competition.

Juan Bernat (Valencia): The attacking line made things happen for Pizzi's side and any one of them could take the award. Bernat's work-rate, his composure in attack - and defence - as well as his beautiful assist for Jonas, was crucial in Valencia securing the win on the night. An outstanding performance from the 21-year-old wing-back.
