The Spaniard’s very public defiance of manager Maurizio Sarri during Chelsea’s penalty shoot-out defeat to Manchester City in the final of the Carabao Cup in February quickly became one of the most memorable moments of the season.
Kepa was subsequently dropped for one match before being restored to the starting line-up and the 24-year-old was critical on Thursday evening in the victory over Frankfurt.
He made a vital stop from Danny da Costa in regular time and then stopped two penalties in the ensuing shoot-out before Eden Hazard scored the winning spot-kick.
"Penalties are down to luck.” Kepa told BT Sport modestly after the match.
“Today we won and in the Carabao Cup final we lost, but this is football. Today was really good and we played against a very difficult team and we are very happy.
"We always prepare for the penalty takers before each game and today we are lucky.
Wembley is in the past and I learned from it.
“I said I was sorry but we always keep moving forward and today was another game and we are happy to get to the final.
"Our season was a little bit difficult but we have reached two finals and we have qualified for the Champions League so I think it's a good season. Now we will have a strong London derby with Arsenal in Baku."
Chelsea will face London rivals Arsenal in the final in Baku on May 29.
