Ryan Giggs will lead Manchester United out as captain in Saturday's FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley as he bids to add to his remarkable collection of honours.
Giggs, who became the first player to win nine championship medals when he helped United win this season's title, will skipper the side in the absence of the injured Gary Neville.
The 33-year-old Wales international will also become the first player in the modern era to win the FA Cup five times if United overcome Chelsea.
"Ryan will be captain and it does complete a remarkable season for the lad - nine championships and the contribution he has made for us," Ferguson said.
"Hopefully he has a very successful day on Saturday. To get five FA Cup medals would be wonderful."
Neville misses the chance to play in his fifth final after undergoing surgery to clear up an ankle injury which has kept the England international defender out of action since the middle of March.
Ferguson said: "We felt we should give him every chance to try and get ready for the final in respect of the service he has given us and being the captain, but it just wasn't working."
