Liverpool picked the youngest ever team in the club’s history for their FA Cup third-round match against Plymouth Argyle on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side had an average age of 21 years and 296 days, with forward Ben Woodburn the youngest member of the team at just 17.
Woodburn scored in the 2-0 League Cup win over Leeds United in November to become the club’s youngest ever goalscorer and he is one of five teenagers in the starting XI.
Lucas, at 29, is the oldest player and slots in at centre-back alongside Joe Gomez, who makes his first appearance for the club in well over a year after finally overcoming injury.
Speaking to BT Sport, Klopp explained: "We train a lot together this team, we play a lot of games together in training.
"I chose this line-up because I want to get to the next round, and I know that's football, it's all my responsibility. If it's good then it's good, if not then there will be a lot of criticism.
"But for me it's a big opportunity to give the boys this opportunity to have fresh legs, fresh minds - we have players on the pitch who really want to play this game today."
Full Liverpool team: Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Lucas, Moreno, Stewart, Can, Ejaria, Ojo, Woodburn, Origi.
Plymouth team: McCormick, Miller, Songo'o, Bradley, Furrington, Threlkeld, Fox, Carey, Jervis, Garita, Slew.
