Tottenham Hotspur continued their winning streak at White Hart Lane with a well-earned 2-0 victory over Aston Villa to advance to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Following a drab first half in which the hosts mustered just one shot on goal, they hit their stride in the second half after the introduction of Dele Alli for the disappointing Vincent Janssen. But it was the unlikely source of Ben Davies that paved the way for victory, the left-back heading home his first goal for Spurs from substitute Georges-Kevin N'Koudou’s cross.
Moments later the match was all but over, Son Heung-min tapping home Moussa Sissoko’s cross. And he could have made the scoreline even more flattering in the closing moments but for an excellent save from the impressive Sam Johnstone.
Victory for Spurs means that they have not been beaten at home in the third round of the FA Cup since losing a replay 1-0 to Aston Villa in 1992. They are unbeaten in all 12 domestic matches at White Hart Lane in 2016-17.

TALKING POINT

Substitutions turn a drab match around. Nothing to talk about in a dire opening half but Mauricio Pochettino’s subs transformed the match, Alli, N'Koudou and Joshua Onomah all making significant contributions.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Kieran Trippier (Tottenham Hotspur): Doing his best to make that right-back spot his own and keep out Kyle Walker with another impressive performance. Dangerous going forward with his penetrating balls and equally assured at the back.
