Former England manager Mark Sampson to file for wrongful dismissal - reports

The news comes just hours after a UK Government select committee hearing over the FA's treatment of Eni Aluko during Sampson's tenure as England manager.

Aluko was dropped from the England team shortly after answering an anonymous questionnaire about the culture within the national team set-up. But the FA stood by Sampson after it emerged that some of Aluko's concerns related to comments made by the manager.

In September Sampson was sacked by the FA, but the governing body cited a previous case as justification for his dismissal.

The case in question surrounded Sampson's "inappropriate and unacceptable" behaviour during his time coaching Bristol Academy. An FA assessment in 2015 ruled that Sampson did not pose a risk, but FA chiefs claimed they were only made away of the full details of the case shortly prior to the decision to remove Sampson from his position.

On Wednesday of this week a Football Association statement apologised to England players Aluko and Drew Spence for being "subject to dicriminatory remarks made by an FA Employee".
