Eusebio to have surgery

Portugal former football great Eusebio is expected to undergo surgery on his cartoid arteries said Joao Malheiro, a friend and author of a book on the Mozambican-born player.

He said Eusebio had heeded doctor's advice to undergo surgery to unblock the arteries that carry blood to the brain and prevent the 65-year-old from having a stroke.

The "Black Panther" thrilled crowds with some 1,000 goals during his professional career from 1960 to 1975 as a striker with Benfica and the Portuguese national side.

He twice won Europe's Golden Boot award as the top European scorer.
