Leroy Sane scored his first international goal as Germany’s young guns swept aside Russia 3-0 at home.
The hosts’ front three of Serge Gnabry, Timo Werner and Sane along with Kai Havertz were rampant as they aimed to end a run of two defeats on the spin and the Manchester City winger scored the opener to finish off a sweeping move early on.
The Russians, who were without several star players including Aleksandr Golovin, were outpaced and outclassed and Sane should have had a hat-trick by the break.

But the goals still kept coming with Niklas Sule tapping the ball home after Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger’s flick on and Bayern Munich winger Gnabry netted a deserved goal with a first-time strike to make it 3-0.
The second half was disrupted by a string of substitutions from both sides although Germany still enjoyed around 70 per cent of the possession. The visitors improved with Aleksey Miranchuk spearheading the attack with substitute Anton Zabolotny after switching formation.
But under-fire Manuel Neuer kept a clean-sheet as Joachim Low’s side showed they can perform without the old guard of Thomas Muller and Toni Kroos ahead of the Nations League clash with Holland on Monday.

TALKING POINT

A turning point for Low? Defeat would have meant three in a row and a new low under Low following the disastrous World Cup campaign. But this new-look side have plenty of pace and width although the lack of a genuine target man in the mould of Miroslav Klose remains an issue.
