Kevin Nolan enjoys winning start to life as a manager

Nolan, 33, who had been without a club since leaving West Ham in the summer, saw second-half goals from Jay Simpson and Calaum Jahraldo give Leyton Orient a 2-0 win at Adams Park.

"We've worked really hard with the team over the last two days and its all come to fruition today," said Nolan.

"We knew the first half was always going to be scrappy and we knew we would have to match them but I was a bit disappointed. We saw a lot of the ball but most of it was wasted.

"When I got them in at half-time I reminded them of the quality they've got and I think you can see that in how they came out in the second half.

"They kept Wycombe pressed in their half for a good five-minute spell and that set the tone for the rest of the game.

"They hadn't had a clean sheet for more than two months. When you've got a player like Jay Simpson in your team you should be in the top seven in this league.

"He only needs one chance as you've seen today so if we can keep games tight at the back then we're away."

Simpson was left unmarked just eight yards out to fire home his 21st of the season before Jahraldo made sure of the win in the final minute of the 90.

Ollie Palmer headed wide from Jobi McAnuff's free-kick just after the half hour mark before Jahraldo fired over from 15 yards.

But Nolan did not have to wait long after the break to celebrate his first goal as Simpson converted from close range after collecting Mathieu Baudry's header inside the area.

Jahraldo then wrapped up the points late on as Simpson turned provider on the break, slipping in the winger to slide past the on-rushing Alex Lynch as Wycombe fell to a third consecutive league defeat.

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth said: "They've had two shots on goal the whole game and both have gone in so that's not on.

"The second was on the break late on but to concede the first like that was a really poor one to give away. You can't let a player like Jay Simpson have two touches in the box like that.

"The spark wasn't there going forward which is not like us. The positive was having Paris Cowan-Hall back and he'll have a big impact on the team.

"We've got some tough games coming up so need to get back to our early season form of defending better as a group as well as winning games.

"I wanted to wish Kevin well and I'm sure he'll be a success. I'm sure he'll have his boots on soon and showing his quality at this level."
