Kilmarnock trust meets funding target to negotiate seat on board

The good news keeps on coming for Kilmarnock fans after it was announced that a supporters’ trust has raised enough money to secure a seat on the club’s board.

Steve Clarke has turned Killie’s fortunes around on the pitch since taking over in October and secured a 1-0 win over champions Celtic on Monday, and there was further good news off the pitch on Wednesday.

Trust in Killie, a group that was set up with the intention of gaining representation on the club board, has reached an investment target of £100,000 to move a step closer to its goal.

After just nine months, the group has raised enough through monthly subscriptions and individual donors to hit the target and is now in talks with the club over the next steps.

In a statement on its official website, killietrust.killiefc.com, the group announced: “The Killie Trust is delighted to confirm that it has secured the initial £100k investment necessary to achieve a place for a supporter director on the board of Kilmarnock Football Club.

“The target has been achieved with the support of our regular monthly donors, premium donors, individual donations and a front funder (who wishes to remain anonymous) who approached the Killie Trust a few weeks ago wishing to assist us to make up the balance required.

“An agreement was reached to enter into an interest-free loan and this has been formalised in line with the rules and regulations of the Kilmarnock Supporters Society Ltd.”

Chairman of the trust, Jim Thompson, added: “This is a fantastic achievement by the supporters.

“To raise £100k within nine months is a testament to their support of this great club.

“We have informed the directors of Kilmarnock Football Club that we have reached the initial target.

“We are now looking forward to working with the football club over the next few weeks and playing our part in many of the very positive changes that have been taking place recently.”
