Atlas winger Andres Guardado is set to be officially unveiled by Deportivo La Coruna later today after his 5.2 million-euro transfer, following advice from fellow Mexico internationals Rafael Marquez and Gerardo Torrado.
Mexico captain Marquez, who played for Atlas in the nineties, stars with Barcelona while Torrado formerly represented Tenerife, Sevilla and Racing Santander before returning to Mexico with Cruz Azul.
"They spoke very highly of the country, the team and the coach," said left-footed Guardado, 20. "Like Atlas they want to give young players a chance and that will help me adapt quickly to the Spanish league."
Coach Miguel Angel Lotina was chosen to take over at the Riazor this summer despite suffering relegation with Real Sociedad last season. He has previously coached Espanyol, Celta Vigo and Osasuna.
Guardado struck a fantastic goal in off the crossbar from 25 yards out as Mexico secured third place in the Copa America with a 3-1 victory over Uruguay.
