Pepe and Coentrao return

France striker Karim Benzema, Turkey midfielder Nuri Sahin and Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho did not join up with their national teams due to injury and, in the case of Carvalho, a decision to quit international football under current management.

The trio were well enough to train in the gym, although Spain defender Raul Albiol - who did play in the 2-0 win over the Czech Republic - is receiving treatment to a facial injury picked up in training on Sunday.

Pepe and Coentrao, meanwhile, are stepping up their recoveries from injury and trained for a second day running with reserve team players and others not selected for international duty - such as Kaka, Esteban Granero and Lassana Diarra.

The Portuguese duo are expected to be fit for the clash with Liga surprise package Real Betis at the weekend.
