Grigg's early header and 21st-minute penalty, after he had been fouled by Ian Lawlor, sandwiched Ryan Colclough's effort as Wigan raced into a three-goal lead in the first half at the DW Stadium.
Bury scrambled to keep Wigan out in the second half, but Gary Caldwell's side extended their unbeaten league run to 12 matches and continued to reel in leaders Burton, who were held to a goalless home draw by title rivals Walsall.
Fellow promotion chasers Gillingham lost ground on the top two as they slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against Chesterfield.
Chesterfield went ahead through Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's 10th goal of the season in the 36th minute and Lee Novak doubled the visitors' lead in first-half stoppage time.
Emmanuel Osadebe's 80th-minute header gave Gillingham hope, but it was not enough as they lost for only the second time at Priestfield in the league this season.
Millwall remain fifth after they were pegged back in a 1-1 draw at Doncaster.
Steve Morison lobbed his 13th goal of the season to give Millwall a sixth-minute lead but Richard Chaplow equalised for Doncaster before the break.
Coventry's promotion hopes were dealt a blow as they were beaten 2-1 by Fleetwood at the Ricoh Arena.
Marcus Tudgay fired Coventry level after Wes Burns headed Fleetwood into a 56th-minute lead, but David Ball lashed home an 83rd-minute winner for the visitors.
Sheffield United's play-off aspirations were rocked in a 2-0 defeat at Rochdale, the Blades' third loss in five league matches.
Grant Holt set up Peter Vincenti as Rochdale opened the scoring in the 67th minute. Holt then scored his first goal for the club since returning for a second spell at Spotland earlier this month to double the home side's advantage in the 81st minute.
Bradford secured their third win in four thanks to Kyel Reid's 54th-minute goal at Blackpool. Blackpool's Will Aimson was sent off in the last minute of his team's 1-0 defeat for two bookable offences.
Barnsley registered a ninth win in their last 11 league games with a 2-1 success at Crewe.
Defender Jon Guthrie's first senior goal for Crewe put them ahead in the 32nd minute, but Sam Winnall levelled for Barnsley after the break with his 18th goal of the season and Alfie Mawson's 67th-minute free-kick earned Barnsley victory.
Michael Doughty fired an 82nd-minute winner for Swindon in a 2-1 victory at Peterborough.
Swindon's Nicky Ajose had earlier fired his 20th goal of the season, this one direct from a free-kick, to cancel out Marcus Maddison's 12th-minute penalty.
Kyle Wootton's 88th-minute equaliser earned Scunthorpe a point in their 1-1 home draw against Oldham, for whom Danny Lafferty scored his first goal in the 78th minute, while Shrewsbury were held to a goalless draw at Colchester.
