Gerard Pique credited Barcelona’s treble-winning campaign to three key areas: the staff, his team-mates… and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Spaniard was speaking at Camp Nou following Barca’s trophy parade through the city’s streets – a bus trip made more entertaining by a hungry Neymar demanding, and receiving, a McDonald’s meal.
Pique cheekily insinuated that Ronaldo’s ill-advised 30th birthday bash in February – which took place in the aftermath of Real’s 4-0 defeat to neighbours Atletico – was the catalyst for his side’s terrific season.
“Thanks to the staff, to the team-mates...and to Kevin Roldan: He started all this!” Pique joked (for those without a grasp of Spanish, skip to 1:04 in the above clip).
Ronaldo had a duet with Colombian singer Roldan at his bash, a move which angered some Real fans with derby defeat still fresh in the memory.
Pique also backed Luis Enrique to remain in charge of Barcelona in the wake of his side’s 3-1 win over Juventus in Berlin.
“This is the Champions League I’ve most enjoyed winning,” he told Canal+.
“It’s my fourth [triumph] - three with Barca and one with Manchester United. Maybe I enjoy this one more because we went a long time without winning it.
“You get used to winning, and when you go three or four years without winning [a particular trophy], you enjoy it a lot more.
“When you’re young, you dream of many things and want to share them your club, but I never dreamed of this.
“We’re the first club to win two trebles. We’re a unique generation and have many years ahead to achieve more.
“I think everything’s been said already, but Xavi [Hernandez] will leave us with an important legacy of how to play football and how to deal with wins and losses. We’ve learned a lot from him.
“It’s not for me to tell [the club] whether or not [Luis Enrique] should continue, but judging by our celebrations, I’m convinced that he will stay.”
