Villa, who signed for New York City in June 2014, has played 27 games for the MLS club this season and scored 17 goals.

It would not be a huge surprise if Villa ends up plying his trade in Europe again this winter. Will it be at Barcelona though? Only time will tell but it certainly is not out of the question. It is not a long term solution but that does not really matter right now. Barcelona have secured deals for ageing stars before – Henrik Larsson is just one example.
