'Cristiano not for sale!' - Real Madrid fans react to China claims
Updated 30/12/2016 at 14:51 GMT
Real Madrid fans made their thoughts plain after claims that an unnamed Chinese club offered £260 million for Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as an annual salary of £85m.
Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes revealed the eye-watering figures in an interview with the Italian media and they made huge waves in Spain, dominating the front pages of the two Madrid-based sports papers, Marca and As.
Mendes said Ronaldo had rejected the world’s biggest ever transfer because “money is not everything” and Real Madrid “is his life”.
But even the prospect of losing a man who has scored 380 goals in 367 games for Real Madrid has energised the fans.
At the club’s traditional end-of-year opening training session at Valdebebas, supporters were heard chanting “Cristiano not for sale!”
Around 5,000 fans were present at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium, the home venue for Real Madrid’s reserve team.
