The French Under-21 international will spend the rest of the season on loan at the Stade Felix Bollaert.
The northern club then have an option to buy him for a fee reportedly between £5m and £6.5m.
Remy is a highly-rated 21-year-old but has made just six appearances for the champions, having lost out in the battle for places to fellow youngsters Karim Benzema and Hatem Ben Arfa.
Lyon's willingness to let Remy go indicates their determination to keep hold of Benzema, who is wanted by a host of top continental clubs including Arsenal.
Remy is expected to come straight into the first-team picture with Lens having loaned Belgian striker Luigi Pieroni to Anderlecht on Wednesday.
